Thursday, September 4

Welcome back, gentlemen.

7th & 8th: First day of the year, all four classes went over class expectations and wrote their introductory essays. The 7th graders wrote about the Ben Franklin quote, the 8th graders about manly virtues. 8th graders, your summer reading essays are due -- five paragraphs, if you please -- next Thursday, September 11.

Tomorrow, 7th grade will kick off with review of the parts of speech. Quizzes will come fast and furious starting Monday. 8th grade, we'll begin review of the Comp I material -- clauses and sentence types. Expect a quiz on Monday and at least three days next week.

HOOPER PROJECT: First off, 2 points to Davidson, R. for finally figuring out who that guy is on the poster in my room. Sheesh, people.

For tonight, a few educable and educative Hoopers in honor of the first day of school. Five points to the first, and one to each additional Comper (that's a Composition student, FYI) who can tell me: (a) What was the first instutution of higher learning established in the United States?, (b) What is the oldest Catholic college in the U.S.?, and (c) What is the oldest college in Maryland?
