HOOPER PROJECT: A big Lone Star “Hook ’em horns!” to Matthew Hand, who remembered that the Alamo couldn’t possibly have been the decisive battle of Texas Independence since all the Texans died there! Sheesh, people. What Matt also remembered is that Texas won its independence from Mexico in April, 1836, after the decisive victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. The battle was won by the audacious surprise attack by General Sam Houston against the Mexican forces of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana.

Tonight, in honor of the National Latin Exam, a triple dose of translation fever. Five points to the first Composition Beast or Stallion who can Anglo-cize the following: (a) “Qui scribit, bis legit,” (b) “Laborare est orare,” and (c) “Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.” Bona fortuna!
