Parts of Speech

There are only nine kinds of words in English (IC.). You should have already memorized them, but in case you haven't, here are all nine.

Noun - names person, place, or thing (school, ball, hope);
Verb - names an action or state of being (run, take);
Adjective - modifies a noun (red, fast, stinky);
Adverb - modifies a verb, adjective, or adverb (very);
Pronoun - takes place of a noun (I, he, they, it);
Preposition - describes a relationship between nouns (on);
Article - announces presence of a noun (a, an, the);
Conjunction - combines words, phrases, or clauses (FANBOYS, see below);
Interjection - exclaims, can stand alone as sentence (Hey!);
