Tuesday, 5 February
Gentlemen,
As you may have noticed, our class gear-shifting has begun in earnest. We will return to complex sentences soon, but for this week we're going to focus on our Introduction to Essay Writing.
We're going to have a quiz this week about what we've discussed in class: text, plot, character, setting, style, theme, and thesis. We're going to start tackling the essay "circle of life" -- that is: TEXT-THEME-THESIS-TEXT.
We use the text to identify themes, draw a provable thesis out of the theme, then support the thesis with excerpts from the text. The circle of life, gentlemen: live it, learn it, love it.
That is all.
Mr. C.
