Friday, February 29th
First of all, gentlemen,
Good work on your essays. I look forward to reading them all this weekend. FYI, parents: progress reports will be sent out for Composition via email this weekend. They were due for other classes today, but since I just got the big essays, I figured it would be better to wait until I accounted for those grades. Thank you for your patience. As for today...
7th Grade/4th Period: Today we did Quiz #28 and class exercise 27. Plan for a quiz Tuesday.
7th Grade/6th Period: Today we did Quiz #29 and Class Exercise 28. Plan for a quiz Tuesday.
8th Grade/2nd Period: Today we did Quiz #29 and Class Exercise 28. Plan for a quiz Tuesday.
8th Grade/Floater: Today we did Quiz #29.
Hooper Project: Congrats to David Hull and Matthew Hand, who each earned 5 extra credit points for defenstrating their inner Hoopers by digging up information on William F. Buckley, his magazine National Review, and his first book, God and Man at Yale. Good work.
Also, I would like to announce a change in the rules of the Hooper Project. To make things fairer, from now on 5 points will be awarded to the first student in each grade to answer the question, either by email or in person. In addition, one point will be awarded to every student who correctly answers the night's question before 8:50 a.m. the following school day. So, for tonight's project, everyone who gets me a right answer by 8:50 Monday gets one point. Good luck, and now, for tonight's chance to garrote your Hooper:
In honor of Mrs. Connolly's birthday tomorrow, the winners of this extended weekend Hooper Project will receive seven points instead of the usual five. The questions: (a) Who was the first pilot to break the sound barrier? (b) In what experimental plane did he achieve the feat?, (c) What nickname did the pilot give the plane?, (d) What 1979 book chronicled his achievements and those of other American pilots?, and (e) Who wrote that award-winning book? Good hunting, gentlemen.
