Study Guide for Test #1 (6th Period, Tomorrow!)

Note: The best way to study for tests is to study the quizzes. They will be my sources of questions and material.

Be prepared to do the following:

1. Name, define, and identify the nine parts of speech

2. Differentiate between transitive (they take direct objects) and intransitive (they don’t) verbs;

3. Explain the “Noun Family Tree” – concrete, abstract, proper, common

4. Explain and properly use pronouns and possessive pronouns

5. Name the five things that make a group of words a sentence

6. Identify the main verbs in sentences and clauses, and identify the verb’s subject

7. Distinguish sentences from non-sentences (S or NS exercise and quiz)

8. Know the difference between a sentence and an independent clause

9. Know the difference between a clause and a phrase

10. Define and identify independent, dependent, and relative clauses

11. Know all the prepositions from the song from “about” to “during”
